Sinfonia Ancaster presents:

Former Mohawk Institute Residential School: Film & Discussion

October 3rd, 2023 at 7:00pm in Peller Hall, Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre
Fundraiser for the Woodland Cultural Centre

Join Sinfonia Ancaster in welcoming the Woodland Cultural Centre to Peller Hall for an insightful filmed tour of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School (Brantford, Ontario). The evening will include a discussion, facilitated by WCC Executive Director, Heather George.

The virtual tour video follows former WCC guide, Lorrie Gallant, as she gives a tour of the former Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School. During the video, Lorrie provides the history of the institution over its 140-year history. Viewers will get to see the different rooms in the school, from the girls’ and boys’ dormitories, the cafeteria, laundry room, and other rooms throughout the building, as well as hear interviews from five Survivors of the Mohawk Institute.

Your contributions to the Woodland Cultural Centre will ensure that they can continue to deliver the highest quality programs centered on a Hodinohsho:ni worldview, celebrating, and sharing Indigenous cultures, languages, and art.

This film is recommended for ages 11 and above, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. You can view the trailer for the film.

This event with Sinfonia Ancaster is a film & discussion, not a concert. For a concert that features Mohawk, Anishinaabe and Cree composers, please see Land Acknowledgement: A Concert, October 20, 2023.
